The Wren Churches
Wednesday 28 March 2018

In 1666 there were over 100 churches in the Square Mile. Then in September of that year the Great Fire destroyed 87 of them. This is the story of a city rising like a Phoenix from the ashes, the story of an astronomer who became a master architect, and the craftsmen and artisans who came from all over Europe to rebuild the City of London and its churches.

We will start our tour with our City of London guide, Emma Krais, in the shadow of the historical centre piece, St Paul’s Cathedral. Along the way we will aim to visit 10 churches (5 bearing the name of St Mary!) before finishing at a church on the site of an ancient subterranean river. We will ‘meet’ the people who were part of the history of these churches and hear their stories.

The meeting point is under the Portico outside Starbucks on Paternoster Row opposite the St Paul’s steps. Please come suitably attired. The maximum number for this tour is 20, so book early to avoid disappointment. Please click here for a booking form
